Eventually, the rain stopped, the sun came out again and the Lady and Lord Hosts of the Tournament took their places on the two gilded thrones as the Lady presented her favour to her chosen Knight, the magnificently-turned-out Sir Dominic (he's the one requesting his lance below).
Skilled narrators talked us through dressing of a 13th century knight ready for combat and kept our hearts in our throats throughout the Saxons' last stand against William the Conqueror's invading Normans.
This was one of those wonderful weekends when I get to go to one of my favourite places, to do my favourite thing amongst scenes from my favourite times in history. In these times when sadly the idea of having a good time seems to often equate to getting drunk in a club on a Saturday night or watching the football with a can of beer, it felt important to me, as a photographer, to capture this rare proof that we still educate our children, we still enjoy delving into our history and still enjoy being outdoors, in the fresh air.
